Dr. Polk has lectured in over a hundred universities, including Harvard, Brandeis, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Chicago, Northwestern, SMU, Texas, UCLA, Berkeley, and research institutions including The Council on Foreign Relations, the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, the Royal Institute of International Affairs and the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
He has also appeared before at least that many public affairs groups, clubs and civic organizations.
In addition he has appeared frequently on radio and television programs including CBS, ABC, PBS and a large number of local stations.
His topics have included American foreign policy, the Iraq war (on which his book, Understanding Iraq, will be published by HaperCollins in 2005), guerrilla warfare and terrorism, including the Vietnam and Algerian wars, his travels in Afghanistan and Arabia, American history (which was the subject of his book, Polk's Folly, and on which his book, The Birth of America, will be published in 2005 by HarperCollins.)
